Historical Places to Visit in Turkey’s Central Anatolia Region

Turkey, which makes all four seasons live to its fullest with its unique beauties, continues to offer views from heaven in every region and to make you feel the smell of history in every period. In this article, I will give you information about the places to visit in Turkey’s Central Anatolia Region.

  1. Anıtkabir: It is the place where the mausoleum of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, is located in the Çankaya district of Ankara. I would definitely recommend those who visit this place to visit Atatürk and the War of Independence Museum and Aslanlı Yolu.
  2. Cappadocia: It is a uniquely beautiful place that offers the opportunity to see fairy chimneys in Nevşehir, which has hosted many civilizations, and is famous for balloon tour. I recommend you to see Eğritaş Church, Sümbüllü Church, Yılanlı Church and Derinkuyu Underground City, Güvercinlik Valley, Uçhisar Castle, Ihlara Valley, Üç Güzeller and Asmalı Konak.
  3. Mevlana Tomb: It is the tomb where the tomb of Mevlana Celaleddin-i Rumi is located in Konya Karatay. Also known as the Mevlana Museum, you can find all kinds of belongings and manuscripts about the life of Mevlana, the history of the Seljuk and Ottoman Empires, and the traces of the Mevlevi culture here.
  4. Odunpazarı Houses: It is one of the oldest settlements in history, located in the Odunpazarı district of Eskişehir. Historical Odunpazarı Houses are one of the best examples of civil architecture in the Ottoman Period, and the houses restored here; I recommend you to visit cafes, restaurants, museums and souvenir shops.
  5. Çatalhöyük Neolithic City: It is one of the oldest settlements in the Neolithic Age, located in Çumra district of Konya. The first house architecture, high relief mother goddess motifs and the first landscape paintings were found here.
  6. Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital: In this region, which has been home to many civilizations from the Hittite Period, in the Divriği district of Sivas, Mengücekoğulları had the Divriği Great Mosque and Hospital built. It is not possible to see any of the architectural and engineering features similar to any of the motifs processed in the building, which exhibits the most perfect example of stonemasonry specific to Anatolian traditions.
  7. Hattusha Antique City: There is information that sheds light on world history in cuneiform tablets, which are home to many civilizations in the Boğazkale district of Çorum. I recommend you to see the Lion Gate, King Gate, Yerkapı, Büyükkale Palace Complex, the Great Temple, the Room with Hieroglyphs and the Nişantepe Inscription here.
